The museum in named to honor Petro
Prokopovych, a Ukrainian beekeeper who lived between 1775 and 1850.  He
is credited with being among the first to invest bee hives with movable
frames.  This allowed the honey comb to be manipulated and honey
harvested with only minimal disruption to the bees.
  Later, Lorenzo Langstroth of the
U,S. improved the frame design by having them hang down inside a hive, with a
  bee-space surrounding the frame.
